Improving body image by keeping promises to yourself

Body image is simply how we see and feel about ourselves. It is how we believe others see us also. Many things can influence how we see ourselves. Sometimes we even see one thing in the mirror, but our brain sees it another way.

One of my biggest struggles has been feeling the need for external validation to feel good about myself. For a long time I would allow others to influence my own body image and how I felt. I slowly realized that I have zero control over how others view me, nor should it really matter to me.

I’ve found that when I compare my own journey to someone else’s journey, it can hinder my own self image. Social media plays a big role in this. I love following other people’s journey, but I have to not fall into the trap of the comparison game. It is not healthy at all for my own self image.

“I’ve realized that I struggle with my body image the most when I’m not keeping up with my promises to myself.”

When you put in the work everyday, you start to feel better about yourself. You keep the promises to yourself, which increases your self confidence. I’ve realized that I struggle with my body image the most when I’m not keeping up with my promises to myself.  When I start making excuses to not keep up with my workouts and let my nutrition slide, my body image suffers. The more my daily tasks align with my health goals, the better I feel about myself. It’s just how it works.
