Earned Confidence

Earned Confidence

For most of my life I was the biggest people pleaser. I would literally do things just to try to win over other people so they liked me, even if it was at my expense. I would double guess myself constantly and seek approval from those around me. I was definitely what you would call a people pleaser and much of that was due to my lack of confidence in myself and need of external validation from others.

Fast forward to February of 2021 when a friend asked me to join him in doing 75 Hard. I was super frustrated the first few weeks because I felt a lack of support from those around me. After doing the “hard things” day after day, I started to build up my own confidence. I realized that confidence is earned by doing the work. No one is going to believe in you until you actually do it. It is a hard concept to fully grasp when you are just starting out on a fitness journey.

Self confidence can never be given to you by someone. It is 100% earned through perseverance, hard work and living a life of zero excuses even when things aren’t convenient. It is one of my favorite parts of my fitness journey. My people pleasing ways are starting to fade as my self confidence grows. It is something I earned and no one can take away from me. The catch though is that you have to keep doing the hard things to keep the confidence. It truly is a lifelong journey, so learn to enjoy the ride.
