Hey there. We’re talking about daily weigh-ins and I want to walk you through how I see it. Because I know for a lot of people, stepping on the scale every day can feel like emotional whiplash. You’re up a pound, you’re down two, you’re up again and it messes with your head, especially if your goals have always been tied to that number.
But what I really like about the way some people are approaching this is they’re doing the best of both worlds. They’re weighing in every day, yes, but then they’re averaging out those numbers weekly. And that shift changes everything.
Here’s why I like that. Daily weigh-ins help you get used to seeing the number. At first, it’s tough. Most people want to run from the fluctuation. But if you stick with it for a couple of months, I truly believe your mind starts to calm down. That number becomes just another data point.
Now, I always say to build your foundation first. Start with eating and exercising around your preferences. Make that your baseline. Then, if you feel up for it, start weighing in daily. Not to judge yourself, but to get curious.
And that’s the big shift here. Curiosity.
What you’re really doing when you average out those weigh-ins is you’re looking at trends, not moments. You’re collecting data. It’s like you’re running your own little health experiment. And if you start looking at this as a puzzle instead of a pass-or-fail test, it can actually become interesting...even fun.
One thing I really hope people do when they’re tracking daily is to look beyond the scale. If you’re trying to figure out how different foods affect you, don’t stop at “I ate this and the scale jumped.” Try it more than once. Look for patterns. Ask yourself how that food affects your energy, your mood, your mindset. That’s the inside-out approach.
So I’m opening this up. If you’re testing things out with food, are you only watching the scale? Or are you looking at how it impacts your whole self?
