I’m Not Doing “Normal” Weight Loss Anymore

Hey there. For most of my life, “normal” in the weight loss space meant feeling anxious about food, guilty about rest days, and insecure every time I looked in the mirror. And honestly, I’ve had enough of that.

When you look around at how people talk about weight loss, fitness, and their bodies, there’s this undercurrent of never being enough. You might see someone who looks amazing, and yet they’re still obsessing over food or punishing themselves with extra workouts. Or maybe you feel like no matter what you do, you’re always behind. That’s what has become normal. But that’s not how I want to live.

This industry makes billions of dollars by marketing against our insecurities. It convinces us that we need to shrink ourselves to be accepted or worthy. And even if we do lose weight or improve our health, those little voices still creep in “Did I do enough? Am I going far enough?”

That’s exhausting. And it’s not sustainable.

I wanted something different. I wanted to be able to eat and exercise without guilt for the rest of my life. I wanted to build habits that make me feel good now and support me as I grow older. And when I look in the mirror, I wanted to build myself up instead of tearing myself apart.

That’s what the inside/out approach is all about. It starts with appreciation. Appreciating who you are, what your body is capable of, and what you enjoy doing. You don’t have to fit someone else’s ideal. You don’t have to meet shifting beauty standards that are decided by filtered selfies and camera angles.

You get to decide how you feel about yourself. And once you do, everything starts to change.

So if you’ve spent years trying to chase what’s considered normal in fitness and weight loss, I want you to pause and ask yourself... is that version of normal actually helping you feel better? If it’s not, maybe it’s time to step away from it.

Because the most freeing thing I’ve ever done was stop chasing the outside version of success and start building something from the inside/out.

If you're ready to build a sustainable and supportive approach to weight loss, self-image, and fitness, I invite you to join one of the YLF programs. Let's build your new normal together.
