What Do You Really Want?

Hey there. Lately I’ve been thinking about the question that doesn’t get asked enough in the fitness and weight loss space. What do you really want?

Not what the diet industry says you should want. Not what your friends are doing. Not what the influencers are selling. But what you want for your life.

This started as a reflection after talking about what’s considered “normal” in weight loss. If you follow what’s normal, you end up in a cycle of guilt, anxiety, and frustration. That’s why it’s important to dig deeper. One way to do that is by using a tool called the “Five Whys.” You start by asking yourself why you want a certain outcome. Then you ask “why” again to your answer. And again... until you get to the truth.

When you do this kind of questioning, you start connecting with yourself. You stop running on autopilot. You begin to notice which parts of your life were built on expectations and pressure, not preference and purpose. And that’s where the shift happens.

I’ve gone through this in my own life. I used to convince myself that I wanted certain things because it was easier than admitting I didn’t. At one point, I was all-in on fitness to the point where it became my whole identity. But when I started asking myself what I actually wanted, I realized I was avoiding some bigger questions. I was using structure and discipline as a distraction.

Fitness can be a powerful foundation. It helps you build habits, gain confidence, and feel in control. But it should be a launchpad, not a prison. You can take what you learn from eating and exercise and use it to shape a life that reflects your values, not someone else’s mold.

And honestly, this goes beyond fitness. People build their entire lives around all kinds of hobbies, careers, or communities. It’s easy to go deep into something and lose touch with who you are. But eventually, your true self will speak up. And when it does, I hope you listen.

Because when you do, you can finally start building a life that fits you from the inside/out.

If you’re ready to explore that path, I’d love to help. Join one of my coaching programs and let’s work on building a life based on your preferences, not someone else’s plan.
