How to Focus on What You're Doing Well

Hey there. One of the most powerful mindset shifts I’ve made in my fitness journey is learning how to focus on what I’m doing well. Not in a fake positivity way. Not in a “just ignore the problems” kind of way. But in a real, intentional way that helps me stay grounded and motivated.

Here’s the thing. It’s really hard to focus on the good stuff if you don’t even know what that good stuff is. So I started a simple exercise. I either open the notes app on my phone or grab a piece of paper and write down the specific things I know I’m doing well. I get really clear. Am I exercising two or three times a week now when I wasn’t moving at all before? Am I keeping myself in a consistent calorie range most days? Am I improving my mindset?

These victories might seem small, but they are huge when you look at where you started. That’s the key — compare to your past self, not to someone else. You are your own measuring stick.

Now, I get it. You probably also want to keep it real and acknowledge the stuff you still need to work on. That’s fine. You can include that too. But I do it a little differently. I write down two things I’m not doing so well — but I write them in the smallest font I can still read. I want the list of wins to be big and bold, and I want the things I’m struggling with to be small and tucked in the corner.

Why? Because my focus needs to be on what I’m doing well. When I keep those wins in front of me, I build momentum. And funny enough, as I focus more on the good stuff, some of those struggles start to work themselves out over time.
