Hey there. Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to lose weight, exercise more, or eat better? For years, you’ve been told to “find your why.” It’s become a buzzword. Something everyone says you need, yet most of us still struggle to identify what actually drives us.
Here’s the thing, a lot of popular whys sound nice. “I’m doing it for my kids.” “I want to be around for my family.” Even “I’m doing it for me.” If those reasons truly resonate with you and help you stay consistent, then great! But what if they don’t? What if your why feels selfish? Or what if you’re not ready to pursue fitness at all right now? That’s okay too.
You don’t need someone else telling you what your why should be. It doesn’t work. Action is a choice, not something you can be guilted into. If you’re forcing yourself to exercise or diet out of shame, you’ll eventually resent the process and quit. The key to building a sustainable, forever-active lifestyle is starting with your preferences. What do you actually want? What feels realistic for you right now?
And if the answer is, “I don’t want to do this right now,” then that’s perfectly valid. It doesn’t mean you’ll never start. Maybe you’ll come back to it in six months, maybe a year, or maybe never—and that’s your choice.
So, stop searching for a reason that looks good to others. Find the one that’s real for you. It could be something you don’t even want to say out loud—and that’s fine. You don’t have to share it, but you do need to know it.
If you’re ready to approach fitness differently—on your terms—let me help you build a foundation that lasts.
