Meet Li

Where’s the best place for listeners to connect with you?: Insta! @bestofbothworldsbasics

Describe your weight loss journey.: My weightless journey can best be described as tumultuous. It started in 2011 when I was first diagnosed with my autoimmune disorders. My kidneys failed and in order to stabilize me I had to go on prednisone and gained a lot of weight. I was gradually able to lose it, but then in 2015 my liver failed and I gained weight again on prednisone.

I was older and was five years deep in low kidney function, so this time the weight was very difficult to use. I tried it all- NOOM, WW, but learning HOW to eat instead of WHAT to eat is what changed the game for me. I also got very into kickboxing, so much so that I am now a certfied kickboxing instructor which has pushed me to grow even more on my journey.

What’s a skill you developed as a result of working through your weight loss process?: A skill that I developed through all of this is cooking! I believe that cooking is a HUGE part of what makes a healthy lifestyle and I love to make recipes to try and help people see that you can eat what your body needs and make it taste great!

What has that skill led to outside of weight loss?: It has led to me finding my passion: helping others on their own health journeys'! Through making cooking reels and starting the passion project of writing my own cookbook, I am hoping to one day help families all across the US love food for how it tastes AND what it can do for our bodies.

What advice would you give to someone working through their weight loss journey?: Be kind to yourself, there is no one as deserving of your love as YOU. This is one of the hardest lessons I have ever learned but once I switched from the "mean girl" attitude to one of grace and kindness, I noticed that I am happier in all aspects of my life.

What's something most people don't know about you that has nothing to do with weight loss?: My personal passion is traveling. After getting sick I promised myself I wouldn't wait to see the world. I do my best every year to go on at least 3 trips to see new people and places that inspire me.
