Hey there. We all have a powerful habit-building tool right in our pocket—our phone calendar. If you are trying to develop consistency with your workouts, improve your mindset, or just stick to daily habits, setting up a simple calendar notification can make all the difference.
How to Use Your Calendar for Habits
This method is extraordinarily simple. Just pick a time, go into your phone’s calendar, and set a daily notification. I like setting mine to go off at the same time as my morning alarm. It’s a straightforward way to start the day with the right mindset.
For example, I use a notification that simply says "Say thank you." When I see that reminder, I take a moment to think about something I’m grateful for. That one small action shifts my focus, helping me start the day in a positive headspace.
Of course, there are days when this doesn’t feel as easy. Some days, I don’t wake up feeling great or I’m in a frustrated mindset. But even then, just seeing the reminder helps me pause and reset. Sometimes, later in the day, if I walk past a mirror or catch myself overthinking, I’ll hear that reminder in my head—"Say thank you"—and it helps me refocus.
Using Calendar Reminders for Other Habits
This approach isn’t just for mindset work. You can use it for any habit:
✅ Exercise: Set a reminder 10 minutes before your workout time.
✅ Hydration: Add a notification that says “Drink water” a few times a day.
✅ Mindfulness: Set a midday reminder to pause and take a deep breath.
✅ Meal Planning: Use a notification to remind yourself to prep dinner.
If you’re starting a workout routine, a helpful tip is to schedule a 60-minute window for a 30-minute workout. When you're new to a habit, things won’t always go smoothly, so giving yourself extra time to adjust makes a big difference.
