Looking at Your Body Without Judgment

Hey there. We’re so quick to cheer others on when it comes to body positivity. We leave supportive comments, send kind messages, and tell our friends to love what they see in the mirror. But when it comes to our own bodies, that same kindness and acceptance can feel hard to find.

I’ve been there. You catch a glance in a mirror or a window and suddenly, that inner critic turns up the volume. You’re thinking about what you wish you could change, and before you know it, you’re spiraling. That’s why I want to talk about what it really means to become body positive with your body.

This isn’t about pretending to love every single thing about yourself instantly. This is about starting small, getting neutral, and being intentional. The first step? Take inventory. The next time you’re getting ready or just spending a quiet moment alone, look at your body as it is. No judgment. No compliments. Just list what you see. That list is your starting point.

Then, I want you to identify a few things you can appreciate. Maybe it’s the way your smile lights up your face. Maybe it’s the birthmark on your shoulder. These might seem like small details, but over time, they become powerful reminders that your body is unique and worthy of kindness.

Write those details down. Keep that list somewhere private and personal. Maybe it’s on your phone or in a notebook by your bed. Read it daily. Yes, every day. Over time, neutral statements will turn into appreciation. Appreciation can grow into love.

This is not a flip-the-switch moment. Even when you build body positivity, those negative thoughts can still creep in. You’ll have days where you feel like you’re looking at the “old you” again. But now, you’ll have tools to counter those thoughts. You’ll remember what you love about your body. And that matters.

This is your body. You only get one. It’s yours for life. So be patient with it, and be patient with yourself.
