Hey there. Getting back into a routine after a holiday can feel like dragging yourself through mud. Whether it was Canada Day or the Fourth of July or just a weekend full of celebrations, it can take a little effort to reset. But I want to remind you of two things that really help me whenever I’m getting back into my usual rhythm.
First, this is why you’re doing the fitness stuff. Not so you can micromanage every bite at a cookout or beat yourself up for having a drink or dessert, but so you can live. So you can go to a party, a family gathering, a long weekend away and enjoy yourself without guilt. That’s the point. And you should be doing it regularly. These experiences with people you care about are part of a healthy, full life.
Second, if you’ve been consistent overall, you’ve built something powerful. You can ease right back into your habits. Sometimes that shift back into routine is like flipping a switch. Other times it takes a few days to get there. Both are normal and both are fine.
If you think about your year as a whole, there are going to be 250 to 300 days where you're in your routine. That also means there are going to be 50 to 100 days where you're not. And that’s totally okay. The consistency you build over time is what leads to results. Not perfection. Not all-or-nothing. Just stacking the days where you show up in the best way you can.
When I miss a few workouts, it feels like I’ve missed way more than I have. But once I start moving again, that energy starts to come back. That momentum kicks in. The key is trusting your process. Trust the habits you’ve already built.
This whole thing is about the big picture. Keep doing the best you can. Be kind to yourself. And when the celebration is over, just pick right back up where you left off.
