Hey there. When you get knocked out of your normal routine, what do you do? This past week, I was the guinea pig for this exact situation. My family and I were on vacation, staying in three different places over five days. It was a great trip, but my routine was completely thrown off.
When I’m on vacation, I don’t stress about structured workouts or tracking food. I focus on walking, staying active, and just enjoying my time. That’s how I approach it, and I’m good with that. But coming back home? That’s when the shift happens.
We got back on Sunday, which is normally my prep day. Not just fitness-wise, but for everything—groceries, meals, schedules, all of it. But instead of jumping right into it, I had to handle some unexpected things, like getting new tires and waiting on my wife’s car repair. Grocery shopping didn’t even happen until Monday, and even then, I just grabbed a few quick items to get by.
Still, I wasn’t sweating it. I knew I’d get back to my routine. My workouts were still happening, I was still waking up at my usual time, and I planned to hit the gym over the weekend. It wasn’t perfect, but I knew everything would fall back into place.
That’s what I want you to remember. When life throws you out of rhythm, it’s not about beating yourself up. It’s about trusting that you’ll get back to it.
A lot of people treat fitness like a race. They think they have to hit certain goals by a specific time—losing weight before summer, getting fit for an event, winning a diet challenge. But the reality? This is a lifetime thing. You have time to adjust, to reset, and to get back to what works for you.
Even I had moments this past week where my brain said, "You should be doing more. You’re slacking." But then that second voice kicked in—the one that reminded me I’d be fine. That’s the voice you want to develop. The one that reassures you instead of tearing you down.
Everyone has times when they’re not fully in their routine. And unless you’re being paid to look a certain way, you don’t need to be locked into a strict fitness plan 24/7. Health and fitness should enhance your life, not consume it.
So when you find yourself slipping, take a step back. Ask yourself:
Is this really a big deal? Probably not.
Do I need to stress over it? No.
What’s the next step to get back on track? Just do that.
I’d love to hear from you—what do you do when you’ve fallen out of your routine? How do you get back into it? Send me a message on social or email me through Your Level Fitness.
