Your Intentions Don’t Matter Without Action

Hey there. I was listening to a sermon from Andy Stanley recently, and one message hit me hard. It was about how your direction, not your intention, determines your destination. That stuck with me because it’s exactly what I talk about when it comes to weight loss. You can know everything. You can have every good intention. But if you’re not taking action, none of it matters.

I see this all the time in our community. People say, “I know what I need to do. I just need to do it.” And that’s where they get stuck. They’re smart. They’ve done the research. They’ve downloaded the tracking app. They’ve watched the documentaries and read the books. But they’re still not taking consistent action. That’s the difference between staying stuck and making progress.

If you’ve been in a cycle of starting and stopping, I want you to try something. Write a letter to yourself. But instead of writing it like you’re talking to yourself, pretend you’re writing to a friend. Imagine they came to you and said they were frustrated with their progress. What would you tell them to do? What actions would you recommend?

Take five to ten minutes and write it out. Bullet point the steps. Be specific. And when you’re done, look at that list. That’s your action plan.

If you’re overeating, track your food. Pre-track it if you can, so you stop and think before you eat. If exercise has been inconsistent, do a ten-minute workout at home. Nothing fancy. Just move.

Right now, I don’t want you to worry about setting detailed goals. You can do that in a couple of weeks. The focus today is on action. Small, repeatable, simple actions. You don’t need more information. You need more execution.

So let me ask you — what actions are you taking this week?
