Moving "Literally" in the Right Direction

Hey there. It’s been a while since I’ve updated you on my foot injury, so let’s dive into how things are going. As of today, I’m happy to report that I’m moving in the right direction. Recovery has been all about finding a sweet spot—a balance between rest, treatment, and staying active enough to avoid additional discomfort.

I’ve developed a system that combines icing, stretching, and light activity three times a day. Each session feels like its own little workout. I’ll admit, when I started, these treatments took a lot longer. I used to spend about 30 minutes with an ice pack wrapped around my ankle, 20 minutes rolling my foot on a frozen water bottle, and then another 15–20 minutes on mobility work. It was a lot, and I quickly realized I needed to streamline the process while keeping the frequency.

Now, each treatment is shorter but just as effective. I use an ice pack for 15 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of rolling my foot with the frozen water bottle. After that, I do some mobility stretching and wear a splint for 20–30 minutes when I’m sitting down—usually while reading, which has become a nice added routine.

As for staying active, I’ve been taking very short walks and keeping my step count at around 5,000 to 6,000 steps a day, sometimes even less. This balance ensures I don’t overdo it, which has been crucial. The key for me has been consistency—showing up for these recovery sessions like I would for any workout.

In fact, I’ve been tracking every recovery session as if it’s a workout. It might sound funny to some, but for me, this is accountability. Each session matters, and treating it like a workout helps me stay committed. So far this month, I’ve logged 73 “workouts,” and I’ll likely hit over 80 by month’s end.

I did try going to the gym once last week, sticking to seated exercises to avoid putting pressure on my foot. Unfortunately, the next day, I felt more pain than I expected—likely due to the gym floor surface. That experience reminded me not to rush things.

Overall, the progress is steady. I’m pacing myself, listening to my body, and focusing on the long-term goal: full recovery. It’s a slow process, but I’d rather take my time and heal properly than risk setbacks by pushing too hard.
