Describe your weight loss journey.: Weight was never a problem for me till my mid 20’s
I was a very active child / teenager riding push bikes / motorbikes and doing martial arts. I started full time work at 18, got a car stopped being so physically active, got married had kids….. the weight started to build up because my eating habits didn’t change but my activity level dropped significantly. 33 years old my weight got 140kg (308lbs)
Simple tasks became harder, my body aches like never before. I knew I had to do something about it. That’s when my “Journey” started. My wife has been on a “diet” of one kind or another most of her adult life, while I supported her I never really became invested in it with her until I was about 43. We joined a gym with our daughter (21)and her husband (23) got some PT sessions and changed our lifestyle, (I don’t like the word diet, it seems like a temporary thing) we both lost weight, I got to 100kg (220lbs) I felt I was in the best physical shape I’d been in for 20 years.
2019 COVID hit. The gyms shut poor eating habits crept back in, weight went up to 120kg (265lbs) 2021 I my left knee started to hurt, turned out I blown out the meniscus and I needed a total knee replacement . Then I had to scale back the amount of walking I could do, ate more food, drank more alcohol. I managed to keep my weight the same but I lost a heap of muscle mass / tone. I got very soft. Knee surgery was done June 2022, I was determined to get make in shape and be able to live my best life from here on in. I’m not 50 yet and this surgery is normally for 70+ year olds. We rejoined the gym 2 weeks ago, our first PT is booked for next week we have been eating smarter and the weight is already on the way down, currently 115kg (253lbs) aiming for 100-105kg (220-230)

What’s a skill you developed as a result of working through your weight loss process?: Understanding the difference between my bodies need for food and want of food. Being able to change social eating and drinking habits without affecting our social life.

What has that skill led to outside of weight loss?: A more active lifestyle, more adventure

What advice would you give to someone working through their weight loss journey?: Get involved, surround yourself with people who will motivate and inspire you to be the best version of you.

What's something most people don't know about you that has nothing to do with weight loss?: I can’t watch any movie where a dog dies without crying
