Hey there. For much of my life I thought fitness was the destination. I believed that if I could just get to a certain weight, or build a certain level of strength, I would finally feel like the person I was supposed to be. What I’ve learned is that fitness is a great place to start the process of becoming who you choose to be, but it’s not the place to stay.
Fitness gives you a foundation. When you first start showing up for workouts or paying attention to what you eat, you realize you can set goals and follow through. You start to see progress, whether it’s lifting heavier, moving faster, or noticing changes in your body. And those changes feel good. They give you evidence that you are capable of more than you thought. But if all you ever focus on is the physical side of fitness, you miss the bigger picture.
Life is not about chasing the perfect body. It’s about choosing who you want to become and living that choice every single day. Fitness teaches discipline, consistency, and resilience, but those skills can be applied far beyond the gym. They can help you build better relationships, show up in your career with confidence, and most importantly, strengthen the relationship you have with yourself.
I see fitness as a starting line, not the finish line. It’s the spark that gets you to ask questions like, “What else am I capable of?” and “Who do I want to be?” Once you begin to answer those questions, you realize that the inside/out approach matters even more. It’s not just about what you see in the mirror. It’s about the thoughts you have when no one is around, the choices you make when things get hard, and the way you talk to yourself when progress slows down.
You always have the power to choose who you’re becoming. Your past doesn’t limit you. Your struggles don’t define you. Every choice you make, from what you put on your plate to how you respond in a difficult situation, is shaping your future self. And that’s what excites me. We’re not stuck. We’re constantly becoming, and fitness is simply one of the tools that helps us take that first step.
So if you’ve been living your life thinking that success is only found on the scale or in your workouts, I want you to step back and see the bigger picture. Fitness is important, but it’s just the beginning. Your life is about becoming the person you choose, and you can start building that version of yourself today.
If you’re ready to take that next step and build from the inside/out, I invite you to join one of The YLF Experience. Together we’ll work on fitness, mindset, and habits that support the life you’re choosing to create.
