Consistency Is a Skill You Can Build

Hey there. When it comes to building a fitness or eating routine, one of the biggest myths I hear is that you just have to be more disciplined. That if you wanted it badly enough, you’d follow through. But that kind of thinking can keep you stuck. You don’t need more willpower. You need a better plan. One that’s built around you.

This is where the inside/out approach really starts to shine. Because instead of trying to fit yourself into someone else’s blueprint, you build your own. You start with your food preferences. You look at your schedule. You ask yourself what types of movement you actually enjoy. Then you build around those pieces.

You’re already consistent in a lot of areas in your life. You show up for work. You take care of responsibilities. That means you already have the skill. The trick is learning how to transfer that consistency to something like exercise or nutrition. And the best way to do that is to make the process as enjoyable and easy to return to as possible.

When I talk to people about long-term success, I’m always looking at how we can reduce the mental tug of war. If you’ve ever had that internal debate before a workout or while staring at your food log, you know what I mean. But when your plan is built around things you like and can manage, those battles become less frequent. You may still have moments where it’s tough, but they’re easier to navigate when your overall system works for you.

I want you to feel like the program you’re following is yours. Not something you picked up online or something someone else handed you. Something you’ve crafted with your name on it. You’re the architect of your lifestyle. And when you own that role, you become more consistent. You start to believe in yourself more. And that belief makes it easier to keep going.

So no, consistency doesn’t show up out of nowhere. It’s developed. It’s practiced. And it all starts with choosing to build a plan around what you’re willing and able to do. You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You just need a different way to approach it.
