Hey there. You’ve probably heard the phrase “be one percent better every day.” It’s everywhere in the fitness and self-development world. And honestly, it can be really helpful at first. When you’re just starting out, small wins can stack up quickly. It gives you momentum. You feel the difference in your workouts, your energy, and even how your clothes fit. That early progress can keep you motivated.
But eventually, that one percent starts to disappear. You still show up. You’re still doing the work. But it feels like you’re not moving forward. You’re not seeing the changes you used to. And if your motivation is tied to visible progress, that can be tough.
This is something I see a lot when people start a weight loss program. In the beginning, there’s often a big drop on the scale. Clothes start fitting differently. You feel like it’s working. But then, after a few weeks or months, the scale slows down. The changes aren’t as noticeable. The effort starts to feel heavier because the results are smaller.
That’s why I don’t rely on improvement alone to stay motivated. Instead, I focus on looking for wins. Every day may not bring a huge victory, but there are usually small signs of progress if you’re looking for them. And sometimes, you’ll have days where a bunch of them show up at once.
Looking for wins is not the same as chasing perfection. It’s about awareness. It’s about being open to growth in ways you didn’t expect. Maybe it’s making a different food choice. Maybe it’s resting when your body needs it. Maybe it’s choosing kindness toward yourself instead of frustration. These are all wins.
I’ve had a lot of conversations with people about this. Some folks can ride that one percent better mindset for years. And if it works for them, great. But for many of us, that kind of pressure just doesn’t hold up. I’d rather help you build something sustainable.
That’s what the inside/out approach is all about. It’s not about chasing perfect progress. It’s about learning to trust yourself, seeing what’s working, and staying consistent even when the changes are subtle.
