When the Scale Stalls, Here’s What You Do

Hey there. Let’s talk about one of the most frustrating parts of a weight loss journey… when the scale does not move. I’m talking about when you’ve been doing the work, staying consistent, and yet for a month or more, your weight hasn’t changed at all.

Here’s what I want you to do when that happens. Keep going.

Seriously. These stalls are part of the process. If you’re within your first year or so of intentionally trying to lose weight and haven’t stalled out for more than a week or two, I hate to say it, but your time is probably coming. It’s not something to fear. It’s just how your body works.

Your body is always adjusting. It’s adapting to everything you’ve been doing. That means sometimes, even though you’re still putting in the effort, the number on the scale won’t reflect it for a while. It doesn’t mean you’re failing. It doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t working. It means you’re going through a phase where progress is just a little harder to see.

This is why I always recommend tracking more than just your weight. Take waist measurements. Take progress photos. Especially the waist measurement. If you’re dropping even an eighth of an inch every few weeks, that’s a big deal. That’s real progress.

Now, if the scale hasn’t moved and your waist measurement has stayed the same for two or three months, then yes, that’s the time to start adjusting. But too many people try to change course way too early. One or two weeks of no movement is not a plateau. That’s just how weight loss works. It’s not linear. The scale might hold steady for a bit, then drop suddenly. That drop will help average things out again.

If what you’re doing has been working for you overall, don’t give up on it just because of a temporary stall. Give it another month or two. Let the process work. Trust what you’ve already done and keep showing up.

The biggest success stories are built on patience, not just action.
