Hey there. Feeling overwhelmed? It happens to all of us, especially when it comes to fitness. You start looking into workouts, meal plans, and “optimal” routines, and before you know it, you’re buried in information. Instead of taking action, you’re stuck trying to figure out where to even start.
Here’s the key—when you’re overwhelmed, simplify.
Why We Overcomplicate Fitness
The amount of fitness advice out there is insane. Every plan claims to be the best, every workout has a specific structure, and every eating program has rules that are supposedly “optimal.” It’s easy to get caught up in thinking you need the perfect plan. But here’s the truth—you don’t.
If you’ve only worked out once or twice a week in the last month, don’t stress about designing a high-performance training plan. Start with the basics.
How to Simplify Your Approach
1️⃣ Set an Easy-to-Accomplish Goal – Instead of overwhelming yourself, commit to something small but consistent. If you’ve barely been working out, make it your goal to hit the gym three times this week for at least 20 minutes.
2️⃣ Use Machines for Strength Training – People love to argue that you “can’t build muscle” using machines. That’s false. If you’re getting back into strength training, start with a full-body machine circuit. Go from one machine to the next, do a couple of rounds, and you’ll get a solid workout.
3️⃣ Keep Cardio Simple – No need for high-intensity interval training with perfectly timed heart rate zones. Walk on a treadmill, hop on the StairMaster, or do something you enjoy. The goal is movement, not perfection.
4️⃣ Make Your Goals Manageable – If you’re overwhelmed, it’s because you feel like you’re always behind. Instead of chasing perfection, set goals that put you ahead. Make them so easy to accomplish that they build confidence and momentum.
Take a Step Back and Simplify
When things feel complicated, get back to the basics. Set a weekly workout goal. Keep your strength training simple. Pick a cardio routine you can stick with. Stop overthinking and just start moving.
