Hey there. We’re in March, and that means it’s time to check in on those New Year’s resolutions. Most people start the year with big goals, especially around weight loss and fitness. They see January as a fresh start and make commitments to change their habits. The problem? Most of those resolutions don’t last more than a couple of weeks.
If you’re still sticking with yours, that’s amazing! Seriously, if 30 people set resolutions in January, 28 or 29 of them have probably already given up. So if you’re still showing up for yourself, keep going. But if you’ve fallen off track, don’t stress—this is the perfect time to reset and approach things differently.
The issue isn’t resolutions themselves. It’s the way most people set them. They choose a big goal, like losing 30 pounds, and then try to overhaul their entire routine all at once. They start hitting the gym, changing their diet, and stacking up too many new habits at once. That’s overwhelming, and it’s why so many people quit before making real progress.
Here’s what works instead—break it down. If your goal is to lose 30 pounds this year, work backward. What does that look like on a monthly level? What small, daily actions can you take to move toward that goal? The key is focusing on what you can control and making those actions part of your routine.
For example, instead of just saying, “I want to lose 30 pounds,” shift your focus to daily habits. Maybe that’s drinking more water, getting 7,000 steps a day, or exercising three times a week. These are things you can track and adjust as needed. The more you focus on daily actions, the more progress you’ll see over time.
And if you realize that the resolution you set in January isn’t something you care about anymore, that’s okay too. There’s nothing wrong with adjusting your focus or setting a new goal. You don’t have to wait until next January to make a change. You can start today.
So, I want to hear from you—are you still working on your original resolution? Are you setting a new goal? What’s one small step you can take today to move forward?
