A lot of people think the reason they keep starting over is because they lack discipline or willpower. But honestly, that’s not the issue for most of us. The problem is we keep trying to fit ourselves into someone else’s plan instead of creating one built for us. Here’s what I believe. Even if you’ve struggled for decades, there are always parts of your journey that you’ve enjoyed. There are foods you like. There are types of movement that feel good. The key is to take those things and build your own program.
Start slow. Don’t feel like you have to jump back into the workouts you used to do at full speed. Even if your body can handle it, your mind might not be ready for that kind of intensity right now. And that’s okay. There’s no finish line here. This is about creating a forever active lifestyle that you can sustain for the rest of your life.
Think about the meals you truly enjoy. Make a list of three, five or even six meals you’d love to rotate for each time of day. Figure out how many times a day you like to eat on a typical day. And then ask yourself how you’ll handle days that don’t go as planned. This way, you’re not guessing, and you’re not left feeling like you failed when life happens.
This isn’t about quick victories or dropping weight overnight. It’s about building something that fits into your life, that feels manageable and that you can actually see yourself doing for years to come. If you keep thinking you’ll just push through like you did before, chances are you’ll end up in the same place again. The difference now is you have the chance to design your plan from the ground up.
