From Vacation to Routine

Hey there. This past week I was on vacation. I was hanging out with my family, relaxing by the pool, not tracking any food, and definitely not working out. I even cut back on the amount of work I was doing for Your Level Fitness, which honestly was the hardest part to step away from.

But something I kept thinking about during this break was the idea of jumping back in versus restarting. If you think about restarting, it's like going back to the starting line every time you take a break. It feels like all progress is lost and you’re starting over. That mentality is exhausting and completely unnecessary.

Instead, I want you to think about it like jumping back into a pool. You got out for a bit to rest or relax, and now you’re getting back in. You’re not starting from scratch. You’re continuing from where you left off. That’s how I’m treating this vacation. I took a break. I needed it. And now I’m just jumping back in.

There is so much noise in the health and fitness space that tells you if you are not constantly pushing forward, you’re failing. That is not how real life works. You’re going to need time off. You’re going to have other responsibilities. You’re going to need a reset. Taking that break does not mean you’re doing anything wrong.

When I get back home and into my regular routine, I’m not starting over. I’m just doing what I’ve been doing for years. And I’m not punishing myself with a weigh-in right after vacation either. I’m pushing that back a week or skipping it altogether. I know that within a week or two, I’ll be back in my groove. That’s how it works.

This whole process is about your day-to-day actions. One week does not erase months of effort. One vacation does not reset the clock. You do not need to earn your way back into your routine. You just get back into it.

So if you’ve had a vacation or a few off days or even a rough couple of weeks, don’t restart. Just jump back in. And do it with the mindset that nothing is lost. You’re simply continuing your story.
