Enjoy the Ride: Appreciate Where You Are Right Now

Hey there. It’s so easy to get caught up in where you’re trying to go. When you’re on a weight loss journey—or really, any journey in life—you focus on the finish line. You tell yourself, “Once I hit that number on the scale, once I look a certain way, once I reach this goal… then I’ll be happy.”

But what if you could be happy right now?

I get it. It’s hard to do. Most people don’t realize how special the present moment is until it’s in the past. If you’re in your 20s, 30s, or 40s, I can almost guarantee that one day, you’ll look back on this time in your life and appreciate it more than you do right now. The challenge is to recognize that while you’re living it.

For me, I think about how fast time is moving. My son is about to start high school. He’s growing up so quickly, but it’s also a fun time in his life and in ours as parents. My wife and I are lucky—our parents are still in good health and living their lives. There’s so much good happening right now, and I make it a point to appreciate it.

Your situation might look completely different. We all have struggles. We all have things we want to change or improve. And if you’re someone who’s always pushing forward, always chasing the next goal, that’s normal. It’s part of who we are as people.

But today, I want to challenge you to slow down. Just for a moment.

Take a deep breath and look at how far you’ve come. You’ve made progress. You’ve overcome challenges. You are not the same person you were before. And yes, you still have things you want to achieve, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be proud of where you are right now.

You can be happy in the present and still move forward. Those two things don’t cancel each other out.

So here’s my challenge—take 10 seconds today to pause and appreciate where you are. No conditions. No “I’ll be happy when…” Just be proud of yourself. Then get back to your day with a little more appreciation for the moment you’re in.
