The Your Level Fitness Podcast 034: Chat with Gormy
Where’s the best place for listeners to connect with you?: My Instagram page @gormy_goes_keto & my podcast the Fat Guy Forum
What’s one habit you do almost daily?: Plan my food/eating for the next day
What’s one of your normal routines?: Wake up, read the Daily Stoic & a devotional, write in my 5 minute journal, drink water and go on a walk.
How long did it take for the above routine to stick? : Years!
Describe your weight loss journey.: Dieted my way up to 540 pounds, lost it focusing only on the scale not my mindset, got to 210 pounds in 2013, fell hard back into my food addiction and regained 270 pounds in less than 6 months, tried again in 2017 with a ketogenic lifestyle & mindset focused approach. Lost 265 pounds and am not working on “mastering maintenance.”
What’s a skill you developed as a result of working through your weight loss journey?:Consistency in the face of life’s chaos
What has that skill led to outside of weight loss?: Turning my desire to help myself into the desire to help others and embarking on a career as a coach
What have you learned about yourself over the last year or so?: Life isn’t about a final victory or finish line, it’s about learning how to tackle new challenges constantly with a focus on more wins than losses.
What advice would you give to someone working through their weight loss journey?:Start, and don’t stop. See this as a fight for your life and not a sprint. Find your true why, as cliche as that sounds and keep it in focus daily.
What resources would you recommend listeners check out?: In general I’d say stoic philosophy, the work of Ryan Holiday specifically. For those interested in Keto, the basic outline at dietdoctor.com is a well presented introduction to the basics of a lifestyle that often seems overly complicated. And of course, my coaching for those interested in a holistic approach to Keto at theketoroad.com
What are you working on now?: Obviously getting my coaching service launched, also finding ways to connect more people to my podcast. Big picture, Covid took my career and jobs away, so I’m rebuilding there as well.
