Why Resilience Matters

Hey there. I have spent a lot of time thinking about what it means to be on a weight loss journey. For many of us, it has not been a short trip. It has been years, maybe even decades of trying, stopping, starting again, and constantly questioning if what we are doing is enough. I want to remind you of something very important. If you are still here, still working on this, you are resilient.

There may have been times where you told yourself you were giving up. Times where the frustration was too much or the results felt too far away. Yet, you came back. You kept showing up. That matters more than you realize. Resilience is not about never having setbacks. It is about choosing to keep moving forward anyway. That is something you can be proud of.

I also know how much noise is out there when it comes to fitness and weight loss. Every day there seems to be a new program, a new diet, or a new “must try” trend. All of it can feel overwhelming. The truth is, you do not need to chase every new thing. What will actually help you build a forever active lifestyle is starting with your preferences. Ask yourself what you enjoy or at least what you are willing and able to do. That foundation makes consistency easier.

Consistency is often talked about like it is something you either have or you don’t. But I believe consistency is a skill. It gets stronger the more you practice it. And the easiest way to keep practicing is to build your habits around things you actually like. If you dread every part of the process, you are not going to want to stick with it long term. When you build around your preferences, you stop forcing and start flowing.

That is the heart of the inside/out approach that I talk about every day. You do not need to fix yourself from the outside in. You need to start by connecting with yourself, your preferences, and your willingness. From there you can build a lifestyle that lasts.
