Why I Finally Chose to Be Happy

Hey there. It took me over 30 years to figure this out. To really see what was in front of me and choose to be happy and positive.

The truth is, everyone grows up wanting to fit in. Most of us spend a lot of time trying to make others happy, hoping to be accepted. When you have something about you that makes you stand out—whether it’s a visible disability, a unique personality, or a different perspective—it can feel even harder. For a long time, I struggled with that.

I always knew I was fortunate. I could do the things I wanted to do, I had opportunities, and I had people who cared about me. But I still spent years being frustrated with the way things were. It wasn’t one big moment that changed everything, but over time, I started to realize something… Being negative wasn’t making my life any better.

I made the choice to shift my mindset. That doesn’t mean I never get frustrated or upset—of course I do. The difference is that now, I recognize when I’m going in a direction I don’t want to go, and I adjust. There’s no set time for how long it takes to get back to a better mindset, but the more you work on it, the easier it gets.

If you’re trying to be more positive, don’t compare yourself to others. It’s not about being the most upbeat, high-energy person in the room. It’s about becoming a slightly better, slightly more positive version of yourself each day.

Life is actually pretty simple when you break it down. There are things that help you move forward and things that hold you back. If you focus more on the things that move you forward, you’ll get where you want to be. And when you mess up? You acknowledge it, adjust, and keep going. You don’t live in the past. You don’t beat yourself up. You focus on what you can do right now.

If you’re feeling stuck or like you’re not “doing positivity right,” trust me—you are. It’s not about perfection. It’s about consistent effort.

If you want to surround yourself with more positive people, you can start right now. If you’re on Instagram, there are tons of people who are sharing uplifting, encouraging messages every day. If you don’t know where to start, let me know—I can recommend some great accounts that will lift you up and remind you that you are doing just fine.
