Want a Better Week? Start With a Plan

Hey there. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to have a plan for the upcoming week. In the fitness and weight loss communities, many people follow a routine called Meal Prep Sunday. Some call it a Sunday ritual. Whatever the name, the concept is the same—taking time to set up your eating, exercise, and lifestyle management goals for the week and figuring out how to execute them.

The reason this works is simple. Whether you’re spending just 15 minutes writing down specific, measurable goals that you can check off each day, or you’re going all out with a full meal prep session, planning ahead increases your chances of success. Not just for the week ahead, but long term. When you build the habit of prepping on a certain day—whether that’s Saturday, Sunday, or another day that fits your schedule—it becomes second nature.

If you work a non-traditional schedule, this routine doesn’t have to happen on Sunday. Maybe you have one weekend day off and another day midweek. In that case, maybe Tuesday is the best time for you to get things set up for your next full workweek. The key is making it work for you. The day you choose doesn’t matter. What matters is that you get clear on what you want to accomplish, set specific goals around it, and—this is where many people struggle—build in some flexibility.

Because let’s be real. No week ever goes exactly as planned. Life happens, things shift, and if your plan is too rigid, it can feel like you’ve failed when you inevitably have to adjust. But flexibility is what leads to long-term success. Being able to pivot, make adjustments on the fly, and keep moving forward is what separates a short-term mindset from a sustainable, lifelong approach to health and fitness.

So, I want to hear from you. How do you get prepared for the week ahead? If you have a routine that’s been working for months or even years, I’d love to know what that looks like. If you’re just getting started with planning, what are one or two things you’re going to do differently today to set yourself up for success?
