Take Action Before Motivation Kicks In

Hey there. There’s a reason I talk so much about showing up. It’s not just about motivation or energy. It’s about building a habit of taking the first step before you give yourself the chance to overthink it.

For me, that’s how it starts. I like to call it mindlessly starting. That might sound odd, but here’s what I mean. I set up as much as I can the night before. My dishes for breakfast are out. My playlist or podcast is queued up. My workout gear is where it needs to be. And when I wake up, I just go. I don’t stop to analyze. I don’t wait to feel motivated. I start moving, and my mind catches up a few minutes later.

That first step is everything. Whether it’s turning on your music, opening your journal, starting your warm-up, or even pulling up the daily check-in page, the goal is to create a cue that kicks off your habit. Before you know it, you’re in motion. And once you’re in it, you’re more likely to stay in it.

This works with workouts, food choices, and mental check-ins. I’ve found that when I connect with myself mentally and emotionally each morning, I’m better prepared for whatever the day brings. Sometimes I’ll even have that check-in page open and ready the night before, so it’s the first thing I see when I open my phone. Little things like that go a long way in keeping me consistent.

A big part of this process is habit stacking. If you’ve read Atomic Habits by James Clear, you know the idea. It’s about tying one small habit to another so they flow together. That’s exactly what I do. These small systems make it easier for me to show up without talking myself out of it.

And that’s what I want for you too. I want you to feel confident in your routines. I want you to feel like your actions align with your goals. You don’t need to overhaul everything. You just need to show up, take that first step, and let your momentum grow.

If you want more support around this, I can help you build it step by step. Join The YLF Experience and let’s put these pieces together in a way that works for you.
