Pace Matters More Than Pushing Harder

Hey there. When it comes to weight loss and fitness, one of the hardest lessons to learn is the importance of pacing yourself. Burnout is real. I know how easy it is to get caught up in the idea of pushing harder, doing more, and going faster. For a while, it might even feel like it’s working. But sooner or later, that push turns into exhaustion, injuries, or complete mental burnout.

I’ve seen this play out in my own journey and in the journeys of others. You’re in the middle of a workout and there’s a voice in your head that says you might be pushing too hard. You feel that hesitation for a moment, but instead of listening, you push forward. Maybe you get through the workout, maybe you get through another month of consistent training, but eventually you hit the wall. Physically you might feel broken down, or mentally you’re just tired of grinding. That’s when you need a break, but too often we ignore that need and push anyway.

Here’s the truth. You already know your warning signs. If you’ve been on this journey for years, or maybe most of your life, you know when you’re approaching the line. The real challenge isn’t in identifying the signs, it’s in listening to them. When you feel the urge to rest, when you think you might be pushing too hard, trust that. Step back, take a few days, or even a week if needed. You will come back stronger, more consistent, and ready to keep going.

This approach is very different from what you usually hear. Social media loves to celebrate the grind. Push harder. Never miss a day. Outwork everyone. That might make for a catchy post, but it’s not sustainable in real life. Fitness and weight loss are not about deadlines. This is your life. The real goal is to show up for the next workout, the next meal, and the next choice. And you can’t do that if you’re burned out.

When you adopt an inside/out approach, you stop trying to force yourself into a pace that doesn’t fit. You start trusting your intuition and building confidence in your ability to know when to push and when to rest. That balance is what creates a forever active lifestyle. It’s not about perfection, it’s about showing up consistently in a way that you can sustain for decades to come.

If you’re ready to stop burning out and start building a plan that works for you, I’d love for you to join The YLF Experience. Together, we’ll focus on creating a sustainable process that helps you build confidence, trust yourself, and make lasting progress from the inside/out.
