My Cerebral Palsy Story and Why I Coach the Way I Do

Hey there. Today’s post is a little different. I want to share the story of how cerebral palsy has shaped who I am and why I approach health, fitness, and life the way that I do.

I was born three months premature. That lack of oxygen at birth led to a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, and for me, that means muscle tightness on the left side of my body and in my lower half. My joints are constantly tight, and my muscles are always working against each other. Walking has never been smooth or easy. I didn’t walk until I was two years old and spent years in physical therapy and undergoing surgeries to relieve tightness.

But here’s the thing... I’ve always been supported. My parents, my extended family, friends, and even some of the kids I went to school with made sure I knew I could do anything. That support helped build my self-confidence. And trust me, you need that confidence when the world sizes you up the moment you walk in the room.

People have made assumptions about me my entire life. From orthopedic doctors who told me I’d be in a wheelchair by college to strangers who stared or called me names, I’ve dealt with it all. But those moments, while difficult, have shaped how I approach coaching, communication, and self-belief.

As I got older, I started working out and realized I could flip the script. People would stop me at the gym and say how inspiring I was. At first, it felt awkward. But eventually I leaned into it. I began to understand that I could take my own story and use it to help others. Not just people with CP, but anyone who feels judged by how they look or what others think they can or can’t do.

I started Your Level Fitness because I want you to know that you’re capable too. Whether you’re managing a disability, navigating a weight loss journey, or just trying to feel better in your own skin, I’ve been where you are. I understand the looks. The judgment. The frustration. And I’ve also experienced the freedom that comes from building habits and developing real skills.

CP doesn’t define me, but it’s part of my story. Just like your challenges are part of yours. What we do with those challenges is what really matters.

If you’re ready to move forward with support and real-world strategies, I’d love to help. Join The YLF Experience and let’s work together to build something sustainable, empowering, and entirely your own.
