Fasting Is a Tool, Not a Rule

Hey there. Fasting is one of the best tools I’ve used to interrupt habits that weren’t serving me. I like that it creates a natural break in my eating routine. If you’re eating six times a day and drop to five, guess what, you’re fasting. You’re creating space between your meals, and that usually results in fewer calories consumed overall. That’s the basics of weight loss. Less in, more out.

For me, fasting helped cut down on mindless snacking. I used to work a traditional 9-to-5 job and found myself constantly reaching for candy at my desk. So I decided I wasn’t going to eat between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. That gave me about a 6-hour eating window. It wasn’t about what the internet said was optimal. It was about what worked for me in that moment.

I stuck with it for four to six weeks. It was helpful. I got used to not snacking, and when I eventually went back to eating during the day, I had more control. I wasn’t reaching for candy out of habit anymore. That time away from snacking built a new level of awareness around food.

That’s the thing about fasting. It isn’t magic. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s a tool. And it’s one that you can use when it makes sense for your life. If you skip a meal here and there, cool. If you want to eat every few hours, that’s fine too. The goal is to build habits that work for you.

I don’t get caught up in all the online noise about the “right” fasting window or whether cream in your coffee breaks your fast. Unless you’re a professional athlete or working with a doctor for a specific reason, none of that matters. You don’t live in a lab. I don’t either.

So here’s what I recommend. Use fasting if it helps you break habits or regain control. Use it as a way to become more aware of how you’re feeling and what you’re doing. And most importantly, make sure you’re using it because it supports your goals, not because someone on social media says it’s the only way to lose weight.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you fast? How do you use it? Let me know.
