Sometimes a Thought About Food Is Just a Thought

You probably have hundreds of thoughts every day that disappear before you ever decide what they mean. Why should most of your thoughts about food be any different?

“I’m hungry.”

“That sounds good.”

“I could eat.”

Maybe the thought matters. Maybe it does not.

You do not have to decide immediately.

Let it pass.

If “I’m hungry” comes back five minutes later, and then again 10 minutes after that, maybe your body is giving you useful information. The interesting part is that letting the first thought go gives it a chance to come back. You are not suppressing it. You are not arguing with it. You are not turning it into evidence that you have food noise. You are creating some room to notice what actually persists.Maybe one of the ways we learn to trust ourselves around food is by realizing that not every thought needs our attention.

And not every thought about food is something that needs fixing.
