Can Trying to Understand Your Food Noise Make You Think About Food More?

Sometimes naming something brings relief.

You finally have language for an experience that has followed you for years. You realize other people think about food the way you do. You are not the only one who has spent enormous amounts of time and energy thinking about eating, cravings, body image, weight, or what you should have done differently.

That can be incredibly validating.

But I keep wondering what happens after that.

At what point does becoming more aware of food noise become another reason to think about food?

Food is already everywhere. Restaurants advertise it. Grocery stores are designed around it. Social media is full of meal prep videos, grocery hauls, recipes, protein products, restaurant reviews, and weight loss advice.

You are also a human being who needs to eat.

So maybe the goal is not to reach a point where food never crosses your mind.

Maybe a more useful question is this.

How much space do I actually want food to take up in my life?

That answer may tell you more than the label ever could.
