Hey there. One of the most important questions I ask myself—and my clients—every single day is, “What’s the plan for today?” It sounds simple, but this one question has the power to shape your entire fitness journey.
If you're working toward weight loss or fitness goals, you need a plan. Not just a long-term goal or a vague idea. I'm talking about a clear, tactical plan you can act on today. That plan starts with your weekly prep. If you work Monday through Friday, Sunday is your day to get organized. But this isn't just about food prep. It's about setting your expectations and deciding how you're going to execute your goals all week long.
You need to know how many workouts you're aiming for. Four is a solid number. You should know how many days you want to stay within your calorie range. You’ll probably try to stay within range every day, but setting a goal of four to five days helps you stay realistic and consistent. You also need to think about your sleep. How much rest do you actually need to function and feel good?
Once you have your week outlined, you shift into daily execution. This is where that key question comes into play. Each morning, you ask yourself, “What’s the plan for today?” You answer with facts, not feelings. You get clear on your workouts, meals, schedule, and any challenges that might pop up.
Life throws stuff at us all the time. Work meetings, surprise errands, last-minute dinner invites... If you're already asking yourself this question daily, you're ready. You already have a plan, or you're thinking through how to adjust when things come up. It stops being emotional and starts being practical.
And that’s the real key. The best coach you’ll ever have is the voice inside your head. When you and that voice are on the same page, everything gets easier. This level of self-coaching takes time. It takes practice. But the more you ask the right questions, the better you get at answering them with intention.
So I’ll ask you again… what’s the plan for today?
