Hey there. You have likely experienced both kinds of people. The ones who are around you when things are going well. And the ones who are truly there for you when things feel heavy.
The distinction matters more than we often admit.
When you hit a new low on the scale, start a new program, or feel motivated and energized, support tends to show up easily. Compliments come in. Encouragement flows. Everyone wants to be part of the momentum.
But what about when you are exhausted. When the scale stalls. When life piles on work stress, family responsibilities, health scares, and self doubt all at once. That is when you find out who is simply around you and who is actually there for you.
And here is the nuance.
I believe we all have the capacity to be there for someone else. The issue is not whether we care. The issue is whether we have created enough internal space to show up.
If your mind is racing all day. If you are constantly reacting. If you are overwhelmed with your own thoughts about your body, your progress, your next meal, your next workout, it becomes hard to be present for someone else. It also becomes hard to receive support when you need it.
Calm headspace creates deeper connection.
When you slow down internally, you notice more. You recognize when your partner is struggling. You see when a friend is withdrawing. You sense when someone needs encouragement without them spelling it out.
This is the inside/out approach applied beyond fitness.
Yes, I work in the fitness space. Yes, I believe in strength training, cardio, habit based eating, structure, and consistency. But if you have spent decades believing you were not good enough as you were, your nervous system may be living in a constant state of tension.
You are not just managing calories. You are managing identity.
When you are constantly trying to fix yourself, it becomes harder to be grounded. Harder to connect. Harder to offer support without feeling drained.
And that is where levels of access come in.
Not everyone gets the same level of your time, energy, and emotional availability. That is not selfish. That is wisdom. Some people are close for a season. Some remain through multiple chapters. Some drift away.
You cannot be deeply there for everyone.
But you can be intentional about the few who truly matter.
The same principle applies to your fitness journey. You do not need every influencer, every program, every opinion to have access to your headspace. You need a handful of trusted inputs. You need structure that supports you instead of shaming you.
For many people who have been trying to change their body for years, there is an underlying belief that they are only lovable once they arrive at a certain version of themselves. That belief quietly shapes how they show up in relationships.
If I am not at my goal weight, I should not ask for support.
If I am not confident yet, I should not fully open up.
If I am still working on myself, I am behind.
None of that is true.
You were always enough.
The work now is about building a life where your health supports your relationships instead of consuming them. Where your pursuit of progress does not disconnect you from the people who matter.
When you operate from inside/out, you become more stable. More grounded. More aware. You move at a deliberate pace. You react less and respond more. You choose who gets access to you and you show up for them with intention.
This is not about cutting everyone off. It is about creating enough mental and emotional clarity so you can recognize the difference between people who are around you and people who are there for you.
And it starts with being there for yourself.
If you are ready to build your health and your life from a calm headspace, with structure and guidance rooted in inside/out principles, I invite you to join one of The YLF Experience programs.
This is where fitness becomes sustainable. This is where self respect replaces self criticism. This is where you learn to enjoy the process instead of constantly chasing approval.
