Hey there. Failure used to terrify me. I thought it meant I was doing something wrong or that I wasn’t good enough. Over the years though, I’ve come to see failure differently. Failure is actually proof that I’m trying. It means I’m stepping into the unknown, pushing boundaries, and figuring out what works for me. That shift has been life changing.
When you’ve been on a weight loss journey for years, it’s easy to tie your self worth to the scale or to whether a plan “works.” The truth is, no plan is perfect. You’re going to miss workouts. You’re going to eat foods you didn’t plan on. You might even regain some weight. For a long time I saw those moments as setbacks. Now I look at them as feedback. They’re chances to learn about my habits, my preferences, and my triggers.
The inside/out approach has taught me that growth is never a straight line. I’ve failed more times than I can count, both in fitness and in life. What’s different now is I no longer see failure as the opposite of success. I see it as part of success. The missed reps, the skipped tracking, the rough days, they’re all teaching me how to build a life that fits me.
Getting comfortable with failure takes practice. It means giving yourself permission to be human. It means looking at what happened, asking yourself what you can learn, and then moving forward without judgment. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Over time you stop fearing failure and start seeing it as part of your process.
If you’ve been on this journey for years, I want you to hear this. You are not broken. You are not weak. The fact that you’ve “failed” and you’re still here trying means you’re stronger than you realize. You’ve already proven resilience. What if instead of fighting failure, you started embracing it as a guide?
That’s how lasting change is built. Not by avoiding mistakes but by using them to shape the next step. You’re always learning, always adjusting, always growing.
If you’re ready to lean into this approach and start building a sustainable path for yourself, I’d love for you to join me in The YLF Experience. Together we’ll take the pressure off of being perfect and focus on building habits you can actually live with.
