Hey there. You are already manipulating your mindset. That might sound bold, but it’s true. Most people in the weight loss space are already spinning stories in their heads that aren’t entirely accurate. And more often than not, those stories are negative.
When someone asks how things are going, the response is usually something like “I could be doing better” or “I really need to get back on track.” It’s automatic. We focus on where we fall short, not on what we’ve done well.
Here’s my challenge to you. I want you to start spinning things in a positive direction. Look at every situation in your weight loss process and ask yourself how you can see the good in it.
Let’s say it’s Friday night. You’re out of groceries, you throw together a last-minute meal, and you end up having cookies for dinner. Instead of beating yourself up, take a step back. You didn’t go out to eat. You stayed home. You controlled your portions. You probably saved money.
You can always point to a choice that might have been better. You can also always find one that would have been worse. Everything sits on a scale. The food you ate might have had more sugar than ideal, but you didn’t go completely off the rails. You made a choice that was somewhere in the middle.
And that’s where most of life happens. In the middle.
So if we’re all going to be doing the same things to lose weight—consistent movement, regular eating habits, long-term effort—why not view it from a positive angle? The actions are the same either way. But the mindset you attach to those actions will either drain you or empower you.
If you enjoy the process, you’re going to stick with it. You’ll have more energy. You’ll stop wasting mental space on guilt and shame. That’s how you build an active lifestyle you actually want to keep.
So tell me this. What’s one thing you’ve been beating yourself up about that you could reframe in a more positive way? Bonus points if it happened in the last couple of days.
