Building Strength When Life Feels Stacked Against You

Hey there. There have been times in my life where it felt like everything was stacked against me. Whether it was my physical challenges, the way I saw myself, or the constant pressure from diet culture, I often felt like the deck wasn’t just shuffled, it was tilted. And yet, I’ve learned something important. Lasting success in weight loss and life doesn’t come from having perfect circumstances. It comes from continuing to show up despite them.

For years, I thought I had to overcome every obstacle before I could make progress. I believed I needed the right timing, fewer stressors, or more support. What I’ve realized is that those challenges aren’t going anywhere. Life is always going to throw curveballs. The question is, what do you do when they come. Do you stop, or do you keep moving forward in some way.

Lasting success isn’t about big wins all the time. It’s about building consistency one step at a time. Even when I didn’t feel like I had much to give, I could still choose something. A short walk. Tracking one meal. Practicing kindness toward myself when the inner critic was loud. Those small actions added up, and they helped me build a foundation that no setback could completely knock down.

The inside/out approach has taught me that when I work on my mindset first, everything else becomes possible. If I believe I’m capable even when life is hard, I’ll continue to make choices that align with my goals. If I remind myself that I’ve always been enough, I stop chasing perfection and start building sustainability. That’s how you create progress that lasts, not just for a season, but for life.
