The Decision That Changes How You See Yourself
For a long time, I thought confidence was something you earned.
You take enough action.
You build enough proof.
You stack enough wins.
And then eventually, you believe in yourself.
That sounds logical. It sounds like it should work.
But here’s the problem.
If you’re waiting for action to create belief, you’re always moving the goalpost.
Because no matter how much you do, there’s always another level. Another thing you don’t know. Another reason to question whether you’re actually ready.
I’ve lived that. I see it all the time.
And the shift that changed everything for me was this.
Confidence doesn’t come after action.
It starts with a decision.
Not a decision that you have all the answers.
Not a decision that you’re going to be perfect.
A decision that you trust yourself to figure it out.
That’s it.
Because the truth is, you’re never going to have complete information. You’re never going to feel fully prepared. And if you wait for that moment, you’re going to be waiting forever.
So instead, you flip the order.
You decide first.
You decide that you belong.
You decide that you can navigate what’s in front of you.
You decide that even if you mess up, you’ll figure it out.
And then your actions reinforce that belief.
Not the other way around.
What’s interesting is we already do this.
Just not in a helpful way.
We choose to believe negative things about ourselves, and then we look for proof everywhere to confirm those beliefs.
I’m just asking you to do the same thing, but in a way that actually serves you.
Choose to believe in yourself.
And let your actions support that.
This doesn’t mean you won’t feel nervous.
This doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes.
You will.
That’s part of it.
But confidence isn’t loud. It’s not performative. It’s not trying to convince everyone around you.
It’s quiet.
It’s knowing that whatever shows up, you’ll handle it.
And when you start to build your identity around that, everything changes.
Because now you’re not chasing confidence.
You’re reinforcing who you’ve decided to be.
