How to Relearn Hunger After Appetite Suppression

Relearning how to eat after GLP-1 is going to feel different. It should.

Your hunger cues may not come back the same way, and even when they do, you can’t rely on them alone. This is where patience comes in. You’re not just going back to how things were before. You’re building something new.

“Normal eating” is whatever you decide it is. There isn’t one standard. Focus on getting enough water, enough produce, and enough overall intake. Most people are already getting enough protein, even if it’s been overemphasized.

Social situations can feel stressful at first. But they’re also part of living your life. Food is going to be part of meaningful experiences. Instead of fearing those moments, use them to practice trusting yourself.

Structure matters more than ever. If you’re not feeling hunger consistently, you still need to eat. This might mean scheduling meals instead of waiting for cues. That can feel counterintuitive, especially if you’ve followed intuitive eating advice before, but this is a different phase.

Right now, you have the chance to build a way of eating that works for your life, not one that’s driven by extremes.
