Food Awareness Is Different Than Suppression
There is a difference between awareness and suppression.
Awareness says:
“I notice these thoughts and feelings.”
Suppression says:
“I should not be feeling this at all.”
That distinction matters.
A lot of people now feel afraid of having any emotional connection to food because the conversation around food noise has become so extreme. Having cravings, preferences, excitement, comfort and/or satisfaction around food does not automatically mean something is wrong with you.
You are human.
The goal is not to become emotionally numb.
The goal is to stop living in guilt, shame, panic and extremes.
You can learn to observe your thoughts around food without allowing them to completely control your life. You can build structure without obsession. You can enjoy food without losing yourself in it.
That middle ground matters.
