The Exhaustion of Constantly Monitoring Your Body

Do you feel exhausted from constantly thinking about how you look?

Checking mirrors. Comparing yourself to others. Monitoring your body. Wondering how people perceive you. Picking apart your appearance throughout the day.

It is exhausting.

And honestly, it makes sense why so many people feel overwhelmed by this.

You are overloaded with messages telling you how your body should look and how changing it will supposedly make you feel better about yourself. Those messages show up on social media, in conversations, in advertisements, in fitness culture, and sometimes even in your own memories from years ago.

Over time, this becomes reinforcement.

You start believing your body is constantly being evaluated, including by yourself.

That creates body noise.

The good news is that you can start changing this.

The first step is making the decision that you are your own body standard. Not social media. Not influencers. Not comparison. Not old expectations.

Then you reinforce that choice every day.

One simple practice that can help is standing in front of the mirror for upwards of 60 seconds and intentionally building yourself up instead of automatically tearing yourself down. It may feel uncomfortable at first because criticism has become automatic for many people.

But repetition matters.

You can retrain how you see yourself.

And the more you reinforce appreciation instead of criticism, the quieter body noise can become.
