When Losing Weight Creates Different Insecurities

Losing weight changes your body. It does not automatically change the way you see yourself. You may even reach a weight you remember from ten or 20 years ago and discover that the reflection does not look the way you imagined it would. Your body has lived during those years too, and the insecurities you carried may have gone much deeper than the number on the scale.

Sometimes reaching the goal is the first time you realize that. The new insecurity may not actually be new. It may simply be another way an older story about yourself is showing up. That does not take anything away from what you accomplished. It may just be showing you that changing your body and changing your relationship with yourself are two different processes.

What would happen if, instead of immediately finding the next thing about your body to change, you got curious about what this new insecurity is actually trying to tell you?
