The Emotional Side of Weight Loss

You can lose the weight and still feel uncomfortable in your own skin.

That surprises a lot of people because most of us grow up believing that confidence automatically shows up once the scale changes. However, if your relationship with yourself has been built on criticism, shame, comparison or feeling “not enough,” losing weight does not magically erase those thought patterns.

Many people experience what I call body noise after weight loss. The food noise may quiet down a little, especially with GLP-1 medications, but the mental tug of war around your body is still there. You still check the mirror. You still wonder how you look in certain clothes. You still question whether you’re good enough yet.

That’s why I believe fitness has to come from an inside/out approach.

You can absolutely appreciate the progress you’re making while also working on how you view yourself emotionally. Those things can happen together. You don’t have to wait until you hit some imaginary finish line before you allow yourself to feel proud of your effort.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is learning how to build a forever active lifestyle while also learning how to appreciate who and what you see in the mirror right now.
