How to categorize food

Instead of labeling food as good, bad or fuel, let’s label them by what they do/provide for our bodies.

Fruits and vegetables provide nutrition - they’re loaded with vitamins and minerals (aka nutrients)

Calorie dense carbs (at least 150 calories per serving) provide enough energy to get you from one meal to the next without needing a nap. Examples of this would be 🥔🍠 🍚 🍞 🥣

Protein sources are your muscle builders that help your body recover and rebuild.

Where do butter & oils fall into this? They’re perfect for cooking and adding flavor to your food as toppers.

Is this a simplified approach to nutrition? Yes. Could you poke holes in it with the diet research you’ve been doing? Sure. Here’s the thing though. If you looked at the meals you ate this way for 9 months, you’d feel great overall and have the best relationship with food you’ve ever had. Oh, and if you need to lose weight - that scale number would work itself out too.

Is the way you’re eating now something you can follow for life? If it is, that’s awesome. 👊🏻 If not, try this.
